Indiana Shooting incident.

In a distressing incident on the east side of Indianapolis, an Indianapolis man is currently in critical condition after being shot by an Indiana State Trooper.

The incident took place at a Speedway gas station near 465 on Brookville Road.

The trooper had located the suspect at the gas station following a request for assistance from the Morristown Police Department.

The individual had raised concerns due to being armed, delusional, and making threats.

The man at the center of the incident has been identified as Zachary Scifres, a 30-year-old resident of Indianapolis.

Prior to the shooting, Scifres had made delusional statements, prompting his family members to reach out to the Morristown police for a welfare check.

The Morristown Police Department, actively searching for Scifres, sought assistance from the state police.

Sgt. Jonathan Haugh, a seasoned 9-year veteran of the Indiana State Police, attempted to detain Scifres.

However, a physical struggle ensued as the suspect resisted arrest. Scifres managed to flee from the trooper, leading to a tense exchange of gunfire at the gas station.

During the shootout, it is believed that both Scifres and Sgt. Haugh discharged their weapons.

Fortunately, Sgt. Haugh remained unharmed, but Scifres sustained injuries from the gunfire and was immediately transported from the scene in critical condition.

The officers quickly applied a tourniquet to Scifres, addressing his significant bleeding until medical services arrived.

Throughout the incident, Sgt. Haugh’s body-worn camera and dashboard camera recorded the events, providing valuable evidence.

Authorities recovered a handgun from the scene, believed to be owned by the suspect.

A photo of the handgun, provided by the Indiana State Police, can be viewed below, shedding light on this unsettling incident.
