Gay Comedians
Are there any gay comedians that are actually funny?
by Anonymous | reply 114 | June 5, 2019 5:45 AM |
I know that everyone will shit on her, but I still love Sandra Bernhard.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 12, 2019 12:24 AM |
Gay men don’t really support funny gay men.
Gay men and lesbians both support funny lesbians.
Not sure why.

I love John Early. Here he is with his best friend Kate Berlant. His character work is even better.

If John Mulaney ever comes out, he will be the funniest gay man in history. And he's cute.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 12, 2019 12:30 AM |
I'd like Seth Meyers to be gay.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 12, 2019 12:32 AM |
Joe Lycett. He's bi though.

Wow, no ones mentioned Tig Notaro yet, she’s brilliant. Her Taylor Dayne Story is legendary.
Offsite Linkby Anonymous | reply 17 | March 12, 2019 12:46 AM |
Thanks R10.. Handt seen before. There were hints of Sheri Oteri and Will Ferrell who I thought were brilliant together!
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 12, 2019 12:48 AM |
Paula Pounstones is gross and Tig is pretty lame too. If her name were not Tig she might be okay.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 12, 2019 1:27 AM |
R20 You can call her by her birth name, Mathilde, if that makes it easier for you to like her.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 12, 2019 2:08 AM |
R22 that is better than Tig. Especially when she looks like a guy.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 12, 2019 2:13 AM |
I love Mateo Lane. His slutty clothes are always very distracting (especially because they show so much of his body, and his tight little body distracts from his comedy), but he's so sweet and funny I like him anyway.
Offsite Linkby Anonymous | reply 24 | March 12, 2019 2:27 AM |
WHO, OP. WHO are actually funny.
And since you didn't say "out gay comedians" another vote for Mulaney.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 12, 2019 2:30 AM |
Mateo Lane would probably be more well known if he wasn't constantly trying to be a comedian and an instaho.

Is the comedian, James Murry from Practical Jokers gay or bi? He and the other guys did a skit which they jokingly acted like Murry came out of the closet on Sally Jesse show. The skit was for a film they did. However, I wonder if he is really closeted and their was some truth to their skit? Their show airs in New York ,and there are a lot of New York queens on here I thought there would be someone here who would know? BTW, These guys are hilarious. I have to admit they can be crass sometimes to the point that's gross ,and its unnecessary because they have talent to be funny without resorting being crass and gross. They remind me of a modern day Marx Brothers routine. BTW, they make fun of everyone including themselves. Check out the link from YouTube on the coming out skit.

Todd Glass has his moments.
But it's Tomlin-Wagner by a mile.
First Runner-Up: Ro O.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 13, 2019 7:18 AM |
I listen to Brian Quinn on his podcast Tell Em' Steve Dave and it seems like all the Impractical Joker guys are straight.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 13, 2019 7:19 AM |
OMG Mateo Lane!! Hadn't heard of him until today. He is so hot!
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 13, 2019 7:24 AM |
Suzanne Westenhoeffer, Deann Smith, Joel Kim Booster...
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 13, 2019 7:27 AM |
I thought Kate Clinton was pretty funny. She did a great live show.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | March 13, 2019 7:33 AM |
Alec Mapa must read Datalounge. On Worst Cooks Celebrity Edition, he had to cook some corn. Under his breath you could hear him say," Corn? I don't remember having corn."
by Anonymous | reply 39 | May 27, 2019 1:56 PM |
I hope John Mulaney will someday be a gay comedian.
Offsite Linkby Anonymous | reply 40 | May 27, 2019 2:05 PM |
Julian Clary was funny in his day.
Offsite Linkby Anonymous | reply 43 | May 27, 2019 2:22 PM |
I think the problem with being a gay comedian is people in general need to identify with you.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | May 27, 2019 2:24 PM |
[quote]Gay men don’t really support funny gay men. Gay men and lesbians both support funny lesbians. Not sure why.
They don't value humor in a person the way str8s do. It's so common for a gay man to be funny - str8 guys not (nearly) so much.
Str8 women always list sense of humor at the top when looking for a mate, the gays never do - they have other priorities.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | May 27, 2019 2:30 PM |
r45, I'm sure that made sense in your head.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | May 27, 2019 2:47 PM |
Mateo Lane is a vain, preening, exhibitionist on Instagram. The idea that he may also be a comedian is completely secondary (and overlooked by many).
by Anonymous | reply 48 | May 27, 2019 2:50 PM |
Can a gay male comedian be actually funny since every joke might have to be pc.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | May 27, 2019 2:54 PM |
R30 is Mark Sam Rosenthal.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | May 27, 2019 2:57 PM |
Mario Cantone. Some of his stand up routines were HILARIOUS.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | May 27, 2019 3:16 PM |
Another old timer vote for Mario Cantone.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | May 27, 2019 3:19 PM |
Peter Bisuto. Funny and a hot, hot bear.

The lesbians are WAY funnier
by Anonymous | reply 55 | May 27, 2019 3:28 PM |
She's not a lesbian(although who knows) but she's HILARIOUS at times-Lisa Lampinelli.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | May 27, 2019 3:31 PM |
Old timey ones were better than today. Paul Lynne, Charles Nelson Reilly.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | May 27, 2019 3:41 PM |
Larry Grayson was great, though he went mainstream/prime time in the end.
Offsite Linkby Anonymous | reply 58 | May 27, 2019 3:45 PM |
Lesbian comedians seem funnier than gay comedians because they can walk the line between talking about their sexual identity and occasional attraction to men. The very femmy gay male comedians can be funny with the sassy whip but that is about it. Just what I have observed as a straight person.

What made it even funnier was that he said it in Carol Channing's voice. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed this.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | May 27, 2019 6:23 PM |
Matteo Lane's entire schtick is wearing extremely tight clothes and posting shirtless selfies on IG. He is what happens when you start to believe your IG sycophants who tell you you're funny.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | May 27, 2019 7:01 PM |
I can’t believe no one has mentioned Julio Torres yet. He’s a writer on SNL and has a new show coming out on HBO this summer.
Offsite Linkby Anonymous | reply 66 | May 27, 2019 7:07 PM |
It's a rough climb in that world. You have to do a few years in amateur open mic nights which are 99% straight... and somehow get them to laugh, before anyone even notices you and gives you emcee gigs and you start moving up slowly (if it ever happens). Doing niche jokes that gays will laugh at will never land with straight people (nothing about rupaul, tops/bottoms, masc/fem, divas, etc...)
And there is a lot of latent homophobia in the bro-ish crowd at these things. Definitely not everyone... but it's there. And it makes it difficult.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | May 27, 2019 7:14 PM |
Julio Torres is brilliant and current and just gay enough for the gays and original and funny enough for the straights - what type of HBO show is he doing? I wish him luck.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | May 27, 2019 7:50 PM |
Suzanne Westenhoefer is naturally funny, even when she's not "on."
Offsite Linkby Anonymous | reply 70 | May 27, 2019 8:13 PM |
R40 thanks for sharing!! I have such a mad hard crush on him. He's my ideal man!!

[quote]Tosh is clearly bi.

by Anonymous | reply 72 | May 27, 2019 9:10 PM |
Mine, too, r71. Sometimes when I read a novel, I imagine the lead character looking and talking just like John Mulaney.
Another guy I like, but who is not a comedian or even an actor, is Connor Gowland. He ends up being who I visualize when I read a novel sometimes, too. @connorgunner

It's the same need for validation. Matteo Lane is torn between two equal desires of craving validation for his humor and craving validation for his looks.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | May 27, 2019 10:58 PM |
Lea DeLauria was pretty funny.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | May 27, 2019 11:02 PM |
[R59] "Lesbian comedians seem funnier than gay comedians because they can walk the line between talking about their sexual identity and occasional attraction to men..."
Might want to learn what the word "lesbian" means son, as for funny comedians Kitty Flanagan is a hoot. Don't if she's a lesbian but she does ping a bit.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | May 27, 2019 11:08 PM |
I can't listen to Matteo Lane because he must say "like" every other word. "Like, starbucks, was like, so crowded, like they asked my name, and I was like...."
He is cute, though

R16, I really like Joe Lycett. Did you see he managed to persuade the Lord Mayor of Birmingham to open his kitchen extension? It was a very Joe Lycett thing to do.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | June 1, 2019 11:24 PM |
Sorry I mean Joel Kim Booster
by Anonymous | reply 82 | June 1, 2019 11:39 PM |
Tommy Little. This is not a clip of him being funny.

It's time for something completely different. The Monty Python guys? Wasn't (at least) one gay?

[quote]It's time for something completely different. The Monty Python guys? Wasn't (at least) one gay?
Yes, Graham Chapman was gay. Besides being a Python, he was a licensed MD. Unfortunately, the AIDS bug bit him in the ass and he died.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | June 3, 2019 12:53 AM |
*CORRECTION"
R85 here again. After doing further research, I learned that Graham Chapman DID NOT die of AIDS. In his Wikipedia article, there was no mention of AIDS at all. I do believe that that was a popular rumor at the time, because I heard it way more than once. Chapman's actual cause of death was—are you ready for this—"cancer of the tonsil." I swear to god I'm not making that up. That's even better than Farrah Fawcett's cancer of the anus.
Carry on!

Julio is cute as fuck but not funny at all.
Tim Dillon...grotesque looking but hilarious. Look up his video mocking Megan McCain.

Just saw Wanda Sykes Netflix special "Not Normal" this evening, She was fantastic.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | June 3, 2019 7:19 AM |
Joel Kim Booster. This is why I love the DL. Never heard of him until this thread, and I'm now totally smitten and laughing my ass off. Even if your provider isn't listed you can see his whole Comedy Central stand up at the link.
Wanda Sykes never fucking disappoints and can be funny on any subject. From politics to her fat roll Esther, to her French wife.
Lily Tomlin is everything, full fucking stop.

Watching the full standup linked above. Joel is one of us. He mentioned someone dying in a grease fire at 18:27
by Anonymous | reply 107 | June 3, 2019 8:14 AM |
r86 that was contested at the time. It might have been "cancer", not cancer.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | June 3, 2019 8:24 AM |
r108 I remember this too. It was so common for many to use "cancer" at the time. However, given how incredibly open Chapman was about discussing his homosexuality from a and how he lived his life from an early age, FAR before it was considered "acceptable" (barf, but true), on top of him being a registered doctor, I don't see him lying or cotton-wooling if he indeed had AIDS. He most likely would have used his time left to educate, research and warn.

Thank you [ R58 ] for Larry Grayson. Took me back to my childhood, all of us stuffed into the front room watching the telly, my auntie Joan chain smoking Topaz menthols. He was funny wasn't he, that music hall training and all. Good memories.
