Five times WWE pushed crazy injuries like Rey Mysterio's popped out eye including The Rock, Alexa Bl
At Extreme Rules, we saw WWE try to convince us that Rey Mysterio's eye popped out at the conclusion of his match with Seth Rollins.
While it might serve as a new marker in WWE's ambitious storyline, it's certainly not the first time they have tried to push the boundaries of reality.
Rey Mysterio’s eye pops out on live TV – here’s how they did it
Mysterio has a 'chance of saving his vision' according to WWE and he is in hospital undergoing procedures.
In reality, Mysterio has not signed a new WWE deal and this injury is being used to explain his absence while they sort things out.
There's normally an underlying reason why these injury angles are done and below are five examples of WWE pushing the boundaries.
Alexa Bliss dislocated arm
In fairness, this was really well done.
Alexa Bliss is double-jointed and thus, she can do some freaky things with her elbow.
Back in 2016, the SmackDown Women's championship was being established with Becky Lynch and Bliss - two new stars in their own right - battling out over it.
On a SmackDown episode on December 27, Lynch locked in the Dis-Arm-Her - The Man's finishing move - and the armbar appeared to cause Bliss' arm to break.
Of course, it didn't really but the gasps from the crowd meant they bought it hook, line and sinker.
Stone Cold Steve Austin run over
This was done out of necessity because Stone Cold Steve Austin badly needed neck surgery stemming from the botched piledriver against Owen Hart back at SummerSlam 1997.
At Survivor Series 1999, there's no doubt that Stone Cold was the hottest star in the business and they needed to write a fitting way to get him off TV.
They only learned that he couldn't compete fairly close to the pay-per-view, so the big storyline was a very last minute deal with the identity of the attacker not even decided.
When Austin went looking for Triple H in the parking lot, a car runs the Texas Rattlesnake down. At the time, you're thinking 'is he dead?!' - it's that full-on.
The camera pans back to Austin laying on the ground and it's quite clearly not actually Austin, it was a stuntman.
Triple H bitten by a snake
During a feud with Stone Cold Steve Austin in early 2001, Stone Cold managed to lock Triple H in a room with a rattlesnake.
Of course, being that Austin is the Texas Rattlesnake it makes the world of sense he would do that, but fans never saw what happened to Triple H in that room as Austin turned the lights off.
Well, the next time Triple H was on our screens, he had a seriously discoloured face with bite marks after apparently being attacked by a snake.
Now we can't say for certain exactly what getting into a scrap with a rattlesnake would look like, but this had to be extreme, right?!
The Rock murdered in an ambulance
When The Rock was going to meet Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania, obviously that wasn't enough to get fans interested from WWE's standpoint.
Icon vs Icon had all the makings of a legendary match and it certainly delivered, but in the build-up to it, The Rock had some filming to do that he needed to get away for right before WrestleMania.
To cover this gap, WWE decided to have the NWO - Hogan, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash - assault the Great One with, among other tools, a tyre iron.
Yep, it was a pretty savage attack. But it got worse for the Brahma Bull as when he was lifted into an ambulance, the NWO decided to ram a truck into the ambulance until it was mangled.
They took one look inside the ambulance - although we never got to see The Rock - and left in horror at what they had done.
The Rock was presumably in pieces, maybe even dead! But, no. He returned two weeks later. Of course he did. Not a scratch on him!
Teddy Long's heart attack
Nobody has ever won an Emmy working for WWE and Teddy Long was no threat to changing that.
Back in 2007, Long was set to marry Kristal Marshall on SmackDown, but as he was about to tie the knot, he went down with a heart attack and it is some of the worst acting you will likely ever see.
The storyline didn't even go anywhere either. Was he trying to get out of marrying Kristal? Was it legit? What was the deal?
We'll never know because Kristal left WWE a few weeks later and Long returned to TV good as new a few months later and nothing was ever said of it!
Rey Mysterio did a good job selling an eye being extracted all things considered, but....
But nothing will ever touch Teddy Long’s heart attack performance 😂 pic.twitter.com/5jrtbNKXp9
